Cannabinoids found in Cannabis may help to prevent and treat heart problems, when taken in the adequate amount, study reveals.
-Studies conducted on the mice subjects (published in Nature) suggested that 9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) (in as less as 1mg/kg quantity) found in the cannabis, was effective in inhibiting the progression of atherosclerosis.
-Cannabinoids have been found to be critical in regulating the immune system and also acts as an anti-inflammatory agent. The key aspect in atherosclerosis is inflammation and cannabinoids have been found to slow down the progression of the heart disease.
-Studies conducted in France also suggest that cannabinoids are effective in protecting against ischemia-reperfusion injury (caused by inflammation when blood supply is returned to oxygen-deprived tissue). It commonly occurs after a patient suffers from brain trauma or a stroke.
-Researchers stated that consuming cannabis in the adequate amount and manner could significantly help the cardiac patients by preventing and treating heart problems.
