Excess of alcohol found to increase the risk for heart attacks and other related heart diseases, study suggests
-In a study, conducted by the experts from University of California, studied the effect of heavy drinking on heart health.
-The study analyzed the data of about 14.7 million adults residing in California who had undergone different types of treatment in the hospital from 2005 to 2009. Of these, about 1.8% were diagnosed with substance abuse.
-Excessive consumption of alcohol was found to increase the risk of atrial fibrillation (or irregular heartbeat) and congestive heart failure by two times.
-Experts were of the opinion, that as was suggested by the previous studies, that one must drink within limits to reap the benefits from alcohol rather.
-Findings were published in the Journal of the American College Of Cardiology
