High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) has been found to be effective in delaying the aging process, study reveals
-HIIT is a form of cardio exercise that involves alternating between short periods high-intensity workout and very short breaks.
-The study was focused on studying the effect of HIIT on the process of ageing. In the study, the participants were subgrouped on two major segments, one that included men and women aged between 18 to 30 and other between 65 to 80.
-For a span of 12 weeks, the participants enrolled in HIIT workouts and observed a tremendous improvement in the age-related decline.
–HIIT improved insulin sensitivity, lowered the risk of diabetes, increased ribosomal activity, and improved protein synthesis
-Participants of the younger group noticed 49% increase in the mitochondrial capacity (which helps the body to create energy) whereas the elder group observed an increase of 69%.
-As per the study, increased protein production leads to increased energy which helps to reverse some age-related cell changes.
-Findings were published in the journal Cell Metabolism
