Higher levels of Omega-3 fatty acids found to lower the risk of death in elder men, study suggests
-In a recent research study, experts evaluated the adipose tissue biopsy specimen and blood specimen of around 853 men aged close to 71 years. The subjects were also made to share their daily dietary habits.
-Taking in account risk factors such as cardiovascular disorders, it was found that higher proportion of linolenic acid in the adipose tissue was associated with lower risk of death in the elder men.
-Studies suggest that linolenic acid shrinks the bad cholesterol in the blood which is a common risk factor in patients with heart problems.
-The American Heart Association recommends that people get 5% to 10% of their daily food calories from omega-6s (nuts such as walnuts, pine nuts (chilgoze), seeds such as sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, dairy products, eggs)
-Findings were published in JAMA Cardiology
