Diet that reduces inflammation found to reduce the risk of bone loss, recent study reveals.
-Researchers from Ohio State University through a study, evaluated if the choice of dietary choices would directly affect the bone density.
-The experts in the study took into account the dietary habits of 160,191 postmenopausal women enrolled in the Women’s Health Initiative.
-The experts assigned a score for each of the foods consumed by the subjects in the span of three months.
-The participants filled dietary questionnaires and bone scans were performed to measure the bone density at the beginning of the year and then three or six years later.
-It was observed that women who consumed diet containing inflammatory foods had lost less bone compared to those who consumed inflammatory diet.
The study suggested that though calcium and vitamin D help to build strong bones, however, they aren’t the only nutrients that do so. A low-inflammation diet (rich in unsaturated fats, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains) is also essential to build healthy bones.
-Findings were published in Journal of Bone and Mineral Research
