Low sodium diet may not be linked with decreased chances of blood pressure, recent study reveals
-The study included more than 2,632 men and women aged between 30 to 64 years of age. The participants
-As per 2015-2020 American Dietary Guidelines, an adult is recommended to limit the salt intake to 2,300 milligrams per day.
-During a follow-up conducted over 16 years, it was revealed that participants who consumed less than 2,500 milligrams of sodium a day had higher blood pressure than participants who consumed higher amounts of sodium.
-Similar studies conducted in past also suggest that people who consumed low or high sodium diets were at an increased risk of heart diseases.
-The findings will be presented at the American Society for Nutrition Scientific Sessions and annual meeting during the Experimental Biology 2017 meeting.
