Intake of psychedelic drugs found to increase consciousness amongst users, study reveals
-A Recent study conducted in the University of Sussex and Imperial College (London) studied the neural signal diversity of the subjects administered with three different psychedelic drugs.
-It was observed that the neural brain signal diversity was higher in subjects who were given psychedelic drugs compared to a baseline of someone who is simply awake and aware. The study suggested a heightened sense of consciousness in the former group.
-As per the study, people who took psychedelic drugs such as LSD, ketamine, or psilocybin (the active compound found in magic mushrooms) showed increased neural signal diversity (a way to measure consciousness).
-The study also suggested that the controlled use of these drugs could effectively treat conditions such as depression, however, further studies were needed to prove the same.
-Findings were published in the Scientific Reports
