Gargle and rinse your mouth daily with mouthwash to restrain the growth of bacteria responsible for gonorrhea, preliminary study suggests
-A recent study conducted in Australia, was focused to understand if a commercial mouthwash could help to restrain the growth of bacteria such as gonorrhea.
-The study included about 196 gays/ bisexuals who had previously tested positive for gonorrhea and were undergoing treatment for the same.
-Of the total, 33 men were randomly assigned to rinse their mouth with Listerine (a commercial brand for mouthwash). Of the total, 25 of the men were made to rinse their mouth with saline solution.
-The study suggested that post rinsing their mouth with Listerine, the proportion of viable bacteria was dropped to 52%, whereas it was 82% amongst men who used a saline solution.
-The study also suggested that men who used listerine were 80% less likely to test positive for the bacteria.
-Though the experts believe that the study needs to be conducted amongst a bigger sample size to completely validate the findings.
-Findings were published in the Journal Sexually Transmitted Infections
