Highly religious people found to be at an increased risk of death anxiety, study reveals
-In a recent study conducted by the researchers of Oxford University studied the link between death anxiety and religious beliefs.
-The study was based on the insights from studies conducted across the world that involved close to 26,000 participants.
-The study revealed that higher level of religious beliefs was weakly linked with lower levels of death anxiety.
-The meta-analysis revealed that intrinsically religious people (whose religious behaviour was driven by true belief) showcased lower levels of death anxiety and extrinsically religious people (whose religious behavior was motivated by social or emotional benefits of following a religion) showcased higher levels of death anxiety.
-Across different studies, the findings differed. However, it was concluded that, 18% of the studies revealed that religious people were more afraid of death compared to non-religious people.
-Findings were published in the Journal of Religion, Brain and Behaviour
