If you go vegetarian, you may not only shed off those extra kilos but also improve your overall metabolism by reducing the muscle fat, recent study suggests
-A recent study, conducted by a set of researchers in Washington, included about 74 subjects suffering from type II diabetes.
-The subjects were put on a vegetarian diet (that consisted of vegetables, grains, legumes, fruits, nuts and animal products limited to a maximum of one portion of low-fat yoghurt per day) or a conventionally anti-diabetic diet (as recommended by the European Association for the Study of Diabetes).
-Both the diets were restricted by 500 kilocalories per day compared to the calorie diet taken by an individual in a day.
-As per the study, the vegetarian diet was found to be more effective (twice) in weight loss and resulted in an average weight loss of about 6.2 kgs.
-Surprisingly the vegetarian diet was also found to be beneficial in reducing weight around the subcutaneous, subfascial and intramuscular fat.
-It was also suggested that a vegetarian diet not only helped dieters to lose weight but was also found to be advantageous for people with type II diabetes.
-Findings were published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition
