Shingles is a viral infection caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. It causes painful rashes, usually on one side of the body or face.

Postherpetic Neuralgia (PHN)

Postherpetic neuralgia occurs when nerve fibers are damaged during a shingles infection. These damaged nerves send heightened pain signals to the brain, leading to persistent pain even after the shingles rash has healed.

What Can You Do? Getting vaccinated with the Shingles vaccine can significantly reduce the risk of developing shingles and, consequently, PHN and other complications.
