Years ago, people worldwide began suffering from iodine deficiency, leading to conditions such as goiter, intellectual disability, and slow growth and development.

Recognizing this issue, the Tata Group initiated a groundbreaking solution by introducing India's first iodized salt, "Tata Salt."

The Tata Group took this decision because salt is a universal dietary staple. Regardless of economic status, everyone consumes salt daily. By fortifying salt with iodine, Tata Salt played a crucial role in eliminating iodine deficiency in India.

In 1992, the Indian government launched the National Iodine Deficiency Disorders Control Programme (NIDDCP) to promote iodized salt use and monitor iodine levels.

Regular monitoring of iodine levels in salt and the population helped ensure the effectiveness of the iodization program. Strict regulations were put in place to prevent the sale of non-iodized salt.
