Rinse the rice thoroughly to remove any impurities and cook the rice with the 3 cups of water until it's soft and fully cooked.

Strain the rice water into a clean bowl or jar. This liquid is your base for the fermented essence.

Allow the rice water to cool down to room temperature. It shouldn't be too hot to touch.

Cover the jar with thin cloth and secure it with a rubber band or string then place the jar in a warm, dark place. This takes about 2 days.

After 2 days, check the rice water for a slightly sour smell. This indicates successful fermentation.

Strain the fermented rice water to remove any rice particles and transfer the liquid to a clean glass jar and store it in the refrigerator. It can last for a few weeks.
