We often don’t realize how the quality of the air we breathe affects our health. The Air Quality Index (AQI) measures how clean or polluted the air is and the potential health risks.

AQI Values: What Do They Mean?

The air is clean with little to no health risk.

0-50 (Good)

Some sensitive individuals may experience mild effects like slight throat or eye irritation, mild coughing or sneezing.

51-100 (Moderate)

People with respiratory conditions may begin to feel the impact.

101-150  (Unhealthy for Sensitive People)

At this level, everyone may start to feel effects, especially with prolonged exposure, so it’s best to limit outdoor time, particularly for those with health issues.

151-200 (Unhealthy)

A health warning is issued at this level. Prolonged exposure can lead to serious effects, especially for those with heart or respiratory issues.

201-300 (Very Unhealthy)

Everyone is likely to experience serious health issues.

301-500 (Hazardous)

Check your local AQI before going out, especially with kids or elderly; consider wearing a mask for safety.
