Neraly all cases of Cervical cancer are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), a common sexually transmitted infection.

HPV, the virus behind cervical cancer, has over 1,000 strains. HPV-16 and HPV-18 are the primary cause of cervical cancer. It’s also the same virus that causes genital warts.

Most people will contract HPV at some point without knowing it. In many cases, the body fights off the infection naturally.
