Systolic (Top Number) – Measures pressure when your heart beats. Diastolic (Bottom Number) – Measures pressure when your heart rests.

The Two Key Numbers In Blood Pressure

-When your heart contracts to pump blood, the pressure is at its highest. It’s the top number in your BP reading (e.g., **120/80 mm Hg).

A high systolic number may indicate stiff arteries or heart strain.

Between beats, your heart relaxes and fills with blood. It’s the bottom number in your BP reading (e.g., 120/**80 mm Hg).
