Recent research from Kobe University  in japan reveals that the answer might lie in a specific protein called PGC-1α. This protein plays a crucial role in how our bodies respond to exercise and regulate metabolism.

PGC-1α is a protein that regulates energy metabolism by boosting mitochondria production, fat burning, and energy use. It becomes more active during exercise, helping muscles burn more calories and support weight loss.

There are different forms of PGC-1α. The "b" and "c" versions are particularly effective and increase significantly during exercise.

Studies on mice and humans show that those without the "b" and "c" forms of PGC-1α burn less fat during workouts and might even gain weight, even with normal food intake.

Understanding this could lead to new weight loss medications that mimic the effects of exercise or improve energy expenditure.

Implications

While exercise is crucial, diet plays a bigger role in weight loss. Good exercise habits combined with a healthy diet are the most effective approach.
