Modern life requires people to sit at their desk in front of a computer screen, in the car behind the wheels or at home in front of the television. The reason for neck pain, shoulder pain and back pain is bad posture while sitting. It is difficult for us to sit with our backs straight for a long time. Soon gravity takes over our muscles and our backs become curved while sitting. This puts pressure on smaller muscles of our back which leads to muscle fatigue and soreness.
Yoga is a great way for stretching and strengthening your back and neck muscles. So this weekend, try these simple yoga postures to get rid of that nagging neck pain:
1 . Marjariasana (Cat Pose)
Sitting on all fours, with your torso parallel to the ground, hands and feet firmly planted on the ground slowly arch your spine upward. Take care to see that wrists are in same line as shoulders, knees and hips are aligned. As your spine rounds in an arch pointing upwards, bend your head downwards towards your chest.
2 . Bitiliasana (Cow Pose)
Sit on all fours as described above in the Cate pose with only change being that your stomach will be arched downwards towards the ground. While inhaling you should bring your stomach downwards and raise your head upwards. Move into the cat pose described above following this. Both cow and cat pose done together can relieve back pain and neck pain.
3 . Utthita Trikonasana (Extended Triangle pose)
Standing straight move your feet apart as much as you can so that your legs and ground form a triangle. While inhaling slowly, bend towards the right with the right hand on the right ankle and the left hand raised above your head, touching the side of your face. Hold the pose for 10 counts while looking at your left hand. Exhale and come back to straight position. Repeat the same on the left side. This one is for relieving neck pain.
4 . Balasana (Child Pose)
Start by kneeling down and sitting so that your buttocks are resting on your heels with front of your feet touching the ground. Raising your hand above your head and inhaling slowly bend your torso down so that your face is towards the ground. Hold this pose with your arms stretched out. Slowly exhale and come back to your earlier sitting position. This yoga pose relieves both neck pain and back pain.
5 . Savasana( Corpse Pose)
This one is the easiest and is good for relieving back pain and neck pain. Lying flat on the ground on your back with your feet slightly apart and hands on your side (palms facing upwards), just let your muscles relax and sink into the ground. Close your eyes and breathe normally. This pose should be held for 5 minutes for deep relaxation.
It is important to remember to stretch your body in the yoga poses without causing any form of pain. In case you have chronic pain conditions, please consult a trained therapist before you start practicing yoga.Stay Healthy, Stay Happy with 1mg, a leading online medicine store in India !
