Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs
How does second opinion help in cancer diagnosis or treatment?
It is often highly beneficial to seek a second opinion after
receiving a cancer suspicion, diagnosis or undergoing certain
cancer treatments. This not only provides reassurance but could
also present alternative treatment options. Getting a second
opinion might provide you with more information regarding your
condition and help you better determine your next steps.
What's the difference between teleconsultation and a Navya
expert's opinion?
Navya has expertise in serving patients through remote solutions
and helping patients online, despite all barriers such as limited
bandwidth, language, etc. Despite the doctor to patient ratio
being highly stretched in India, with only about 300 specialized
oncologists, Navya is able to provide expert opinions from exactly
the right specialist. Our expert opinions are backed by published
clinical trials and on the ground learning from patient outcome
data using our machine learning systems.
How will my physician / treating oncologist react? Will they
mind?
Treating oncologists are used to consulting organ specific experts
when making treatment recommendations, and highly respect experts
from Tata Memorial Centre and the National Cancer Grid. 50% of
patients change their treatment plan to the Navya recommended plan
after sharing them with their treating oncologist.
How can the doctors give an opinion without examining the
patient?
An oncologist does not always physically examine a patient.
Reports are sufficient; thereby making the opinion valuable to
know what the best line of treatment is. In addition, Navya
Patient Advocates reach out to the caregiver/patient to know
complete history, including current symptoms and side effects to
treatment (if any). These insights are included in the structured
summary that is reviewed by experts. Users are encouraged to
provide detailed information about the current condition of the
patient.
Who is a patient advocate?
Patient advocates are skilled professionals who help patients and
caregivers navigate the complex and often confusing healthcare
system. For example, an advocate is a person who does the act of
pleading or arguing in favor of something. In a similar way, a
patient advocate is a liaison between patients and healthcare
providers, who asks questions, structures health information and represents you.
I want to have an in-person consultation with the doctors.
Meeting multiple doctors/specialists at their availability to
determine the complete treatment decision is time consuming and
tedious, it can take weeks or even months. Navya attempts to
provide virtual multidisciplinary tumor board decisions within 2-3
days after receiving all the relevant medical reports. With a
Navya opinion, you can be assured to receive the right treatment
plan from experts at Tata Memorial Centre and/or the National
Cancer Grid. You can then spend money to focus on receiving the
right treatment rather than visiting multiple
hospitals/oncologists, consulting multiple specialities, spending
long hours in queues, costs on logistics & travel just to get the
treatment plan.
Can I choose a specific doctor for my online expert opinion?
Will I get a one-on-one call with the experts?
All experts on the TMC NCG Navya panel have at least a decade of
experience, most are professors or tenure track faculty. Navya
selects the right expert for your case based on the Disease
Management Group (such as breast, oral, lung, etc.), the
specialization (medical, surgical , radiological), and the
expert’s availability at the time. In order to do this in a timely
manner and at scale, Navya is unable to disclose the name of the
experts. This approach has served over 100,000 patients to date.
What's the processing fee? Is it a one time Opinion fee? For how
long will it be valid?
The fee for each case is ₹11,500 + GST. This includes the expert
recommended treatment plans from 300+ cancer experts from Tata
Memorial Centre and National Cancer Grid and a dedicated patient
advocate to answer all your questions or any further follow up
questions. The fees are valid until there is a new line of
treatment.
