Vedolizumab Uses
Vedolizumab is used in the treatment of Ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.
How Vedolizumab works
White blood cells (WBCs) are made by the immune system to fight infection. In Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease, overproduction of WBCs leads to inflammation. Vedolizumab works by stopping the WBCs from entering the lining of the gut.
Common side effects of Vedolizumab
Nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages), Headache, Nausea, Joint pain, Fever, Upper respiratory tract infection, Fatigue, Cough, Bronchitis (inflammation of the airways), Influenza, Back pain, Rash, Itching, Sinus inflammation, Oropharyngeal pain, Pain in extremities

Expert advice for Vedolizumab
- Tell your doctor or nurse immediately if you experience a rash, itching, difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling of the eyes, mouth, throat, tongue, or lips, dizziness or a fast heartbeat during or after administration of Vedolizumab.
- Inform your doctor if you have liver problems, tuberculosis or have been in close contact with someone with tuberculosis, if you currently have an infection, or infections that come and go or ongoing infections that do not go away.
- Inform your doctor if you are going to have any vaccinations or if you have had one recently.
