Understanding IVP in Tinsukia
What is IVP in Tinsukia?
Intravenous urography (IVU), also referred to as intravenous pyelography (IVP), is an imaging technique to check the internal structure of the kidney, the ureters( the narrow pipe that carries the urine to the urinary bladder), and the urinary bladder. A contrast dye is inserted through the vein, and its passage through the kidney to the urinary bladder is checked. This test is used to check the normal functioning of the kidney or the presence of any obstruction in the passage of urine.
This test is to be avoided during pregnancy. Following this test, the patient may face trouble in urinating and can have urinary tract infections. Abnormal IVP detects the presence of kidney disease, ureter or bladder stones, enlarged prostate, or any injury to the urinary tract.
