What is Semen Culture at Center?
A semen culture test is done to check the presence of any microorganisms in the semen. It is mostly advised when a man presents with symptoms related to the genitals and lower urinary tract. If you are experience burning sensation in the genitals, have blood in the semen (hemospermia) or suffer from painful ejaculation, your doctor might ask you to take this test. This test is also used to check for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), bacterial prostatitis as well as any infection of the reproductive gland.
The test is also recommended for men undergoing the treatment of infertility or as a part of the routine checkup of reproductive health. It is also a common test advised before undergoing in-vitro fertilization (IVF) or intrauterine insemination (IUI) procedure.
