Understanding X - Ray L S (Lumbo-Sacral) AP View
What is X - Ray L S (Lumbo-Sacral) AP View?
X-Ray LS Spine AP View is an imaging test that allows your doctor to visualize the lower back anatomy, which includes the intervertebral discs, the lumbar vertebral bones (L1 to L5), and the surrounding soft tissues.
X-Ray LS Spine AP View or X-ray lumbosacral spine anteroposterior view uses X-rays to obtain images of your spine. These images help determine the severity and source causing your back or neck pain.
An abnormal x-ray may help indicate injuries, congenital abnormalities (inherited bone disorders), abnormalities in the curvature of the spine, wear or stress on the cartilage and bones of the lower spine, narrowing of the joints between the vertebrae, signs of thinning bones (osteoporosis), spondylolisthesis (dislocation of the vertebra), fractures or other illnesses in the spinal bones.
What is X - Ray L S (Lumbo-Sacral) AP View used for?
- To find the cause of the lower back pain that lasts for a long time
- To look for any injury or fracture of the spinal bones (vertebrae)
- To diagnose any suspected tumors (abnormal growth), arthritis, osteoporosis (thinning of the bones) or infections of the spine
- To detect suspected disc problems like spondylolisthesis (dislocation or slipping of one vertebra over the other) or degeneration of the disc
- To look for any abnormalities in the curvature of the spine like lordosis (excessive inward curve of spine), kyphosis (excessive outward curve of spine also known as hunch back), scoliosis (side to side abnormal curvature) or birth defects
