Biovac 25mcg Injection is used for active immunization for prevention of typhoid fever caused by certain bacteria called Salmonella typhi (S. Typhi). The vaccine helps to protect the body against typhoid fever that can be caused by S. Typhi.
Biovac 25mcg Injection is administered by a healthcare professional and should not be self-administered. It is generally given at least 2 weeks prior to expected exposure.
Some common side effects of this medicine include tenderness, pain, induration, erythema, nausea, diarrhea, and fever. If these side effects do not go away with time or get worse, let the doctor know. The doctor may help with ways to reduce or prevent these symptoms.
To make sure the vaccine is safe, before receiving the vaccine, it is important to let the doctor know if you have any other illnesses. Biovac 25mcg Injection is given as an injection into a muscle by a doctor or a nurse, as a single dose, approximately 2 weeks before travelling to such an area where typhoid fever is common.

How does Biovac 25mcg Injection work?
Biovac 25mcg Injection works by causing your body to produce its own protection against typhoid fever. It does this by making substances, called antibodies, which destroy the Salmonella typhi organism. If you have been vaccinated against Salmonella typhi, your body is able to attack that organism if you come in contact with it.
How is Biovac 25mcg Injection given?
Biovac 25mcg Injection is given as an injection, usually into your upper arm muscle, by a doctor or nurse. For children, the muscle of the upper thigh may be preferred. Biovac 25mcg Injection should not be injected directly into a vein, or any blood vessel.
Is Biovac 25mcg Injection effective?
Usually it takes several weeks after vaccination to fully develop antibodies against typhoid fever. Most people will make enough antibodies against Salmonella typhi. However, as with all vaccines, 100% protection cannot be guaranteed.
Can Biovac 25mcg Injection cause typhoid fever?
No. Biovac 25mcg Injection will not cause typhoid fever. It just helps your body in producing antibodies against it, so that your body can fight the infection if you are exposed to it in future.
What is the dose of Biovac 25mcg Injection?
You must have one dose at least 2 weeks before you may be exposed to typhoid fever. If you are continually or repeatedly exposed to the Salmonella typhi organism, a booster dose is recommended every 2 to 3 years.
