Product introduction

Envas 5 Tablet belongs to a group of medicines known as angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. It is widely used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure and may be prescribed after a heart attack. It also lowers the chances of having a heart attack or stroke.

Envas 5 Tablet can be prescribed either alone or in combination with other medicines. It should be taken on an empty stomach. This medicine should be taken at the same time each day to get the most benefit. It is important to continue taking it regularly even if you feel well or even if your blood pressure is controlled. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel ill, but if you stop taking this medicine, your condition could get worse. This is a widely used medicine and is considered safe for long-term use.

Making some changes in your lifestyle will also help lower your blood pressure. These may include regular exercise, losing weight, smoking cessation, reducing alcohol intake, and reducing the amount of salt in your diet as advised by your doctor. The most common side effects of this medicine include decreased blood pressure, cough, increased potassium level in blood, fatigue, weakness, and dizziness. Most of these are temporary and resolve with time. Talk to your doctor if any of the side effects bother you or do not go away.

Before taking this medicine, let your doctor know if you have any kidney or liver problems. Pregnant or breastfeeding mothers should also consult their doctor before taking it. Your doctor may check your kidney function, blood pressure, and potassium levels in your blood at regular intervals while you are taking this medicine.

FAQs

What is Envas 5 Tablet? What is it used for?

Envas 5 Tablet belongs to a group of medicines known as angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. It relaxes and widens the blood vessels, making it easier for the blood to pass through the vessels. As a result of this, the heart does not have to work more to push the blood. Since the workload on the heart is reduced, it helps to lower the blood pressure and thus reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke. It is also used for the treatment and prevention of congestive heart failure.

Does Envas 5 Tablet cause excessive urination? Can it cause kidney damage?

No, Envas 5 Tablet does not cause excessive urination (loss of water through urine). The use of Envas 5 Tablet may not affect normally functioning kidneys. However, damage to the kidneys may occur when Envas 5 Tablet is given with a diuretic (water pill, a medicine that increases the urine output). In such a case, either the diuretic should be discontinued or its dose should be reduced. If you have severe heart failure or your kidneys are already affected then there is a risk of kidney failure. However, timely and appropriate treatment can reverse the damage caused to kidneys.

Can use of Envas 5 Tablet affect my liver?

In rare cases, Envas 5 Tablet may cause yellowing of skin and eyes, loss of appetite and an increase in liver enzymes. It can also cause considerable damage to the liver and even death. Therefore, if you experience any such symptoms, call your doctor immediately.

Is it safe to use Envas 5 Tablet along with hydrochlorthiazide?

You have to be careful when taking Envas 5 Tablet with hydrochlorothiazide, as it can further decrease your blood pressure. You may also develop symptoms of kidney failure, such as a reduced amount of urine, swelling of your legs, ankles, and feet from retention of water. While some may experience unexplained shortness of breath, excessive drowsiness or fatigue, persistent nausea, confusion, pain or pressure in your chest and seizures (fits). These symptoms usually occur if there is substantial water or salt loss prior to starting Envas 5 Tablet. Therefore, if you face any such issues contact your doctor who will either advise you to discontinue hydrochlorothiazide or give a lower dose. The doctor may also advise you Envas 5 Tablet in very low doses when used in combination with hydrochlorothiazide.

I am taking ibuprofen for arthritis, is it safe to take Envas 5 Tablet along with it?

You should avoid taking ibuprofen and Envas 5 Tablet together since there is a risk of kidney damage. Also, this combined usage may reduce the effectiveness of Envas 5 Tablet. Consult your doctor for an alternative to ibuprofen.

How long does it take for Envas 5 Tablet to start working?

Envas 5 Tablet starts reducing blood pressure within few hours. However, it may take few weeks to see full benefits. You may not notice any difference after taking Envas 5 Tablet for high blood pressure, it can only be noticed when you get your blood pressure checked. So, keep taking the medicine to feel better. If you are taking Envas 5 Tablet for heart failure, it may take few weeks to months before you start feeling better.

How long do I need to take Envas 5 Tablet?

You may have to take Envas 5 Tablet for long time (even for life time), until and unless any serious side effect starts bothering and deters you from taking it. However, do not stop taking it without the advice of your doctor.

What can happen if I suddenly stop taking Envas 5 Tablet?

You should not stop taking Envas 5 Tablet without consulting your doctor. Doing this can suddenly increase your blood pressure which may cause a risk of heart attack or stroke. If you experience any side effects, talk to your doctor who will prescribe you another medicine.

Is it safe to take Envas 5 Tablet for a long time?

Yes, Envas 5 Tablet is generally well tolerated by most people and can be taken for long term. However, its long-term use can sometimes cause your kidneys to not work properly. Your doctor will get regular blood tests done to check whether your kidneys are functioning properly or not.

Can I take Envas 5 Tablet before surgery?

Inform your doctor that you are taking Envas 5 Tablet, before surgery, especially when the use of general anesthetic (to put you to sleep) is recommended. This is done because Envas 5 Tablet can reduce your blood pressure when it is used with an anesthetic. Hence, your doctor may advise you to stop taking Envas 5 Tablet 24 hours before surgery.
