Hello, My grandfather has recently developed problem with swallowing. Full History: My grandfather had fallen from bed on April 3rd 2016. He had a hip replacement surgery on 7th April which was successful. After being discharged he was undergoing physiotherapy. At that time he had developed cough with phlegm but it was not frequent and was not interfering with his eating. During this time our family doctor had prescribed S-Mucolite and occasionally Nebuliser if the coughing was too persistent. After a month and a half he started to walk with the help of a walker mostly for going to the bathroom. At this time his eating and bowel movement had become somewhat regular. But he had another fall while returning from the bathroom. This time luckily there wasn't much harm to him. The orthopaedic said that there was a very minor crack and suggested two week bed-rest. During this time he developed a lot of cough with phlegm. And at the same time he had to be given enema once to clear his stools. This time the doctor changed the syrup to Reswas. Right now his condition is such that whenever he eats or drinks anything even a very small sip he starts coughing and everything comes out with phlegm. He coughs up a lot of phlegm. He even coughs even if he hasn't eaten anything. For example after sleeping for say 3-4 hours the first thing he does after being seated is removing phlegm which is very thick and a bit brownish. He eats/drinks in a seated position. He hasn't eaten anything for the past 4-5 days, except around 1/4 cup of vegetable soup and a single biscuit or so. He does pass urine but has had no bowel movement for the past 8 days. We consulted a chest physician and he said his lungs are clear and suggested us to refer an ENT doctor. His current medication are Gemcal - CTD 6.25 - Becozyne C Forte and Reswas. But we haven't given him any of his medication for the past one week because of the lack of eating anything. Because of his apparent weakness he sleeps the majority of the day.
