FAQs

What is Simulect Injection used for?

Simulect Injection is a class of medications called immunosuppressants. It is used to prevent immediate transplant rejection (attack of the transplanted organ by the immune system of the person receiving the organ) in people who are receiving kidney transplants.

When you must not have Simulect Injection?

Inform your doctor if you have ever had an allergic reaction to basiliximab, the active ingredient in Simulect Injection, or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine. Also, inform if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before the start of the treatment.

How should this medicine be used?

This medicine comes as a powder to be mixed with water and injected intravenously (into a vein) by a doctor or nurse in a hospital or medical facility. It is usually given in 2 doses. The first dose is usually given 2 hours before the transplant surgery, and the second dose is usually given 4 days after the transplant surgery.

When should I call my doctor right away?

Get medical help right away if you have signs of allergic reaction such as rash, hives, itching, and blisters. Also, let your doctor know if you experience wheezing, difficulty breathing, fast heartbeat, muscle aches, swelling all over the body, fever, chills, difficult or painful urination.

Can Simulect Injection be given to a breastfeeding woman?

There are no studies available concerning the excretion of basiliximab into breast milk. However, since Simulect Injection is an immunoglobulin G (IgG1K) antibody, it may cross the human placenta and may be excreted in human milk. Women receiving Simulect Injection should not breastfeed for 4 months following the last dose.

How to relieve constipation during the treatment?

To relieve constipation, include fiber in your diet (fruits and vegetables), drink 8-10 glasses of fluids a day, and keep active. A stool softener (with a doctor's prescription) once or twice a day may prevent constipation. If you do not have a bowel movement for 2-3 days, consult your doctor.

How to get relief from diarrhea while on treatment with Simulect Injection?

Food items with soluble fiber can help relieve diarrhea as they help absorb excess fluid from the body. These food items include bananas (ripe), orange, boiled potatoes, white rice, curd, and oatmeal. Diarrhea can cause dehydration in the body, so drink 8-10 glasses of water to avoid dehydration. You can also have soups and juice frequently to hydrate yourself.
