Avanafil is used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction, pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and benign prostatic hyperplasia.
How Avanafil works
Avanafil helps widen (relax) certain blood vessels and improves the blood flow to the penis that leads to penile erection following sexual stimulation.

- Take Avanafil exactly as your doctor tells you to. It is intended to be taken before sexual activity and is not to be used daily.
- Avoid alcohol since it can reduce your ability to get an erection and may prevent you from getting the maximum benefits of this medicine.
- Let your doctor know if you have any heart disease, high or low blood pressure, or a history of heart attack.
- If you experience sudden visual disturbances, stop taking Avanafil and consult your doctor immediately.
- You have been prescribed Avanafil for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
- It is best to take it an hour before sexual intercourse. But, you can take it anytime between 30 minutes and 1 hours before sexual activity.
- Do not take it more than once a day.
- Seek medical attention if the erection persists for more than 4 hours after sexual intercourse.
- Do not use Avanafil if you have recently taken nitrates (medicines used in angina or chest pain).
- Do not take it if you have had a heart attack in the past 3 months, or stroke or heart failure in the past 6 months.
