Fenticonazole is used in the treatment of fungal infections of vagina, fungal infections, severe fungal infections and dandruff. It is used in fungal infections of vulva and vaginal (thrush).

How Fenticonazole works

Fenticonazole is an antifungal medication. It kills and stops the growth of the fungi by destroying its cell membrane, thereby treating your skin infection.

Fenticonazole helps treat vaginal fungal infections. It reduces vaginal burning, itching, and discharge.
Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better.
It is inserted into the vagina using an applicator, usually at night before going to bed.
Avoid contact with your eyes. If accidental exposure occurs, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
It can damage condoms and diaphragms and make them ineffective at preventing pregnancy. Ask your doctor about other suitable methods of preventing pregnancy.

Q. Is Fenticonazole an antibiotic or a steroid?

No, Fenticonazole is neither an antibiotic nor a steroid. It belongs to the imidazole class of antifungals. It is used to treat candidiasis (thrush) occurring in the vulva and vagina.

Q. Does Fenticonazole have any effect on contraceptives?

Yes, Fenticonazole can damage condoms and diaphragms (barrier method of contraception), thereby affecting their efficacy. Therefore, instead of using these, you can use alternative methods of contraception such as contraceptive pills.

Q. How should Fenticonazole be used?

Fenticonazole should be used strictly as per the doctor’s advice. The usual dose of Fenticonazole is one applicator full in the morning and one applicator full in the evening for 3 days. Your symptoms may disappear quickly, but it is important that you continue using the cream for 3 days. Consult your doctor in case you have any confusion regarding the medicine, if your condition worsens or if there is no improvement.

Do not store Fenticonazole above 30°C. Store in the original container. Do not use the medicine after the expiry date shown on the outer packaging. Keep out of the reach and sight of children.

Fenticonazole can cause certain side effects in some people. Using Fenticonazole may cause mild and transient rash or burning sensations that generally disappear rapidly. Additionally, using Fenticonazole for prolonged periods of time may make you allergic to it.

Fenticonazole can be used again if the candidal infection returns after 7 days. However, if the candidal infection recurs more than twice within six months, you should consult your doctor whether it is candidal infection or something else.

Q. What precautions are necessary while using Fenticonazole?

Do not start treatment with Fenticonazole during menstruation as the cream will be washed off with blood flow. The treatment should be finished before the onset of menstruation. Do not use tampons, vaginal douches, spermicide or other vaginal products while using Fenticonazole.
