Prucalopride is used in the treatment of heartburn, indigestion, constipation and irritable bowel syndrome. It helps in relieving constipation that is long-lasting or keeps coming back.

How Prucalopride works

Prucalopride is a selective 5-HT4 receptor agonist that has high intrinsic activity. It indirectly stimulates the release of acetylcholine, a chemical messenger that increases the motility of the intestine and treats even chronic (long-term) constipation very effectively.

No, Prucalopride is not safe to be taken during pregnancy. There are few reported cases of spontaneous abortion that have been noted when given in pregnant women. There is little evidence of use of Prucalopride in pregnant women. Therefore, its use during pregnancy should be avoided. It is important to consult your doctor before starting this medication.
