What is Vitamin C?
Vitamin C, also known as L-ascorbic acid or simply ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin essential for various bodily functions. It plays a crucial role in the formation of collagen, a vital protein for skin, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels. Additionally, vitamin C facilitates the body's healing process. it also helps in the repair and maintenance of cartilage, bones, and teeth. Acting as an antioxidant, it helps combat oxidative stress. Vitamin C also promotes the absorption of iron. Since the body cannot produce vitamin C on its own, it must be obtained through diet. Citrus fruits, grapes, tomatoes, cauliflower, and cabbage are among the foods rich in this vitamin. Deficiency in vitamin C can lead to scurvy, characterized by symptoms like bleeding gums and easily bruised skin. This test measures the level of vitamin C in the blood.
