The AFB Rapid Culture by Bactec MGIT, Sputum is a microscopic examination of a sputum sample for the detection of acid-fast bacteria (AFB) responsible for causing infectious diseases. The most common disease caused by AFB mycobacterial species is tuberculosis which commonly affects the lungs and sometimes the brain, bones, or kidneys. As tuberculosis spreads through coughing or sneezing the sputum sample is taken for the investigation.
