MPO (p-ANCA)
Understanding MPO (p-ANCA)
What is MPO (p-ANCA)?
MPO (p-ANCA) measures the autoantibodies (Perinuclear-Antineutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibodies or P-ANCA) related to an enzyme Myeloperoxidase (MPO). This test helps diagnose and monitor various autoimmune chronic inflammatory disorders and also to differentiate between different types of vasculitis like granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) and microscopic polyangiitis (MPA), lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Wegener's granulomatosis, and Churg-Strauss syndrome. It helps evaluate treatment response in people with autoimmune diseases or vasculitis. You may get tested if you experience symptoms like joint pain and stiffness, fatigue, skin rash, shortness of breath, high blood pressure, blood in urine, etc. The test results can help guide treatment decisions, detect relapse (recurrence) in previously treated individuals, and assess disease severity to determine prognosis and treatment options.
Please note: This is an outsourced test. The sample for this test is collected by TATA 1MG and processed at a NABL accredited partnered lab.
What does MPO (p-ANCA) measure?
The MPO (p-ANCA) test detects antibodies in the blood that target myeloperoxidase (MPO), a protein found in certain white blood cells. These antibodies are commonly associated with autoimmune diseases like Microscopic Polyangiitis (MPA) and Churg-Strauss Syndrome, which cause inflammation in small blood vessels. A positive MPO (p-ANCA) test helps doctors diagnose these conditions, differentiate them from other similar health issues, and guide appropriate treatment for better management.
