Understanding Barium Meal Up. Git & Follow Through
What is Barium Meal Up. Git & Follow Through?
Barium Meal Up. Git tests are useful for checking the upper surface and outline of the gastrointestinal tract or gut. This test generally helps in examining the stomach, gullet or oesophagus, and upper gut region where the small intestines (duodenum) are present, to find tumours, polyps, or ulcers.
Typically, doctors may recommend undergoing an endoscopy alternately to this test as barium tests require some exposure to radiation. The test takes place in multiple steps, including follow-up testing. Pregnant women should avoid getting the test. Prior to the test, it is suggested that one maintains an empty bowel, which can be achieved by fasting a day before.
