BRCAMap - Germline is a targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS) panel for BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 to assess the risk of breast and ovarian cancer. It checks for the genetic alteration/mutation in BRCA genes that are responsible for the majority of hereditary breast and ovarian cancers. BRCAMap can be performed on somatic (tissue) samples if an individual is currently diagnosed with cancer or germline (blood) samples for individuals who are at risk of developing cancer. This test is also recommended when there is a personal or family history of breast/ovarian cancer, or those who have specific types of cancers running in their family and these people are more likely to inherit these mutations.
