Understanding BUN Random
What is BUN Random?
A BUN Random or Blood Urea Nitrogen Random is a blood test that helps determine the protein levels in the body. Elevated levels of urea in the blood may indicate improper functioning of the kidneys and related symptoms, including itching, joint pain, and frequent urination.
A BUN test is usually recommended along with the serum creatinine test to evaluate the health of your kidneys. The test works by measuring the amount of urea in the blood sample. Blood urea is a waste by-product formed by the breakdown of proteins by the kidneys. Abnormal (elevated) levels of blood urea may be used as an indicator to detect possible problems associated with the kidneys, such as dehydration, or side effects of medication.
