Understanding Cardiac PET CT
What is Cardiac PET CT?
The Cardiac PET CT scan provides a detailed view of heart anatomy, blood flow, and heart tissues. This test is invasive. Various cardiac ailments and disorders can be diagnosed through this test. In the Cardiac PET CT scan, a small radioactive tracer is injected into the veins. As the tracer flows in the body, the radiologist can see the minute details of the veins, heart muscles, and blood flow in the heart. The tracer takes about an hour to get absorbed in the body, after which the scanning is done using a PET scan, which provides 3D images. The tracer material is harmless and is flushed out of the body within a few days.
