CCD
What does CCD measure?
The CCD test measures the presence and levels of specific IgE antibodies produced by the immune system in response to the carbohydrate structures known as CCDs (complex carbohydrate determinants) that can be found in various allergens, such as certain foods, pollen, and insect venom. These carbohydrate structures are not typically responsible for triggering allergic reactions on their own, but they can cause false positives in allergy testing. By identifying and measuring IgE antibodies to CCDs, this test helps to differentiate true allergies from non-allergic sensitivities, ensuring more accurate diagnoses. Elevated IgE levels suggest a potential sensitivity to CCDs, helping doctors better understand the underlying cause of allergic reactions. This test is a highly reliable method for reducing diagnostic errors, providing clearer insights into the presence of genuine allergies, and helping doctors guide appropriate treatment decisions based on the severity of the response.
