Understanding CECT Scan Left Clavicle

What is CECT Scan Left Clavicle?

A MEDICAL DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING TECHNIQUE IS a CECT left clavicle or Contrast-Enhanced Computed Tomography of the left clavicle (collarbone).

It uses rotating beams of X-rays, contrast material, and a software to produce 3-dimensional images of the left clavicle. The clavicle is the region located between the ribcage (sternum) and shoulder bone. The detailed images help physicians diagnose conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and fractures.

A CECT scan is a rapid and painless procedure. The X-rays and the contrast material used during the scan can cause temporary skin rashes and itching. An abnormal scan may indicate the presence of inflammation, infection, swelling, or bruising in the left clavicle and surrounding soft tissues. Pregnant women must inform the concerned authority before undergoing the CECT scan.

What is CECT Scan Left Clavicle used for?

  1. • To detect any fractures of the bones of the clavicle (collarbone) not visible on a simple X-ray • To detect the cause of any unexplained pain in the area of the collar bone • To detect any infection, injury or inflammation of the surrounding soft tissues like the muscle and tendons
