Understanding CECT Scan PNS - Axial & Coronal View
What is CECT Scan PNS - Axial & Coronal View?
CECT scan of PNS is a CT (Computed Tomography) scan of the Para Nasal Sinus (PNS). It is a non-invasive imaging technique used to diagnose inflammation, tumour, fluid accumulation in the sinus, fracture, trauma, or increase in tissue thickness.
In the test, the patient is made to wear loose clothes, take off all metallic items from the body, and lay down on a table. Different views of the PNS can be obtained in this test, like coronal (front and back view) and axial (top and bottom view).
The table is moved across the CT scan machine by the doctor remotely to get the imaging of the PNS. Pregnant women and people with chronic kidney and heart ailments must inform the doctor beforehand.
What is CECT Scan PNS - Axial & Coronal View used for?
- • To detect and diagnose chronic sinusitis or presence of any fluid in the sinus cavities • To detect any infections or inflammation of the sinuses • To detect the presence of any tumors (abnormal growth) • To plan and guide the treatment procedures if any conducted • To diagnose suspected deviated nasal septum
