What is Chikungunya, PCR?
Chikungunya is a viral infection with predominant symptoms like fever and joint pain. This test detects the presence of Chikangunya virus within 6 days of illness using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). PCR is an amplification method in which various copies of DNA are produced to detect the virus. The test is 100% sensitive & specific.
What is Chikungunya, PCR used for?
The doctor advises the Chikungunya PCR test to patients who consistently, for a week, present clinical symptoms such as high fever, headache, nausea and vomiting, myalgia, conjunctivitis, maculopapular rash etc. As dengue virus infections also present quite similar symptoms, the chikungunya PCR test is advised in such cases as well.

Interpretations
The Chikungunya PCR test is performed to amplify and detect the Chikungunya virus RNA. The serum specimen is collected and sent for the test. This test can detect the virus faster than any other similar test.
