Understanding DTPA scan
What is DTPA scan?
The DTPA scan is an imaging test that is used to monitor the functioning of fluid flow across the kidneys. In this, a radioactive material called DTPA (Diethylenetriaminepentacetate) is injected into a vein which reaches the kidneys through blood. The Renal DTPA scan is a unique and efficient way to evaluate kidney function and blood flow. It also helps diagnose any changes in the blood vessels, identify any blockages in the urinary tract, and follow up in the cases of a kidney transplant. Special cameras sensitive to gamma radiation are used to scan the kidneys during the entire process. This scan gives an early and precise diagnosis. The images created can be used to assess the renal functioning and problems associated with it.
