What is DTPA Scan & GFR by sample method?
DTPA Scan and GFR by sample method is a technique in which a radiotracer substance called Tc99m-DTPA is injected into the bloodstream and used to get a picture of the kidney. The image is obtained with the use of a special camera that is sensitive to gamma radiation as the material passes through the kidney and finally gets flushed out of the system.
This test is used to get an idea about the normal functioning of the renal system and any related disorders. DTPA Scan & GFR by sample method detects the changes in blood vessels of the kidneys and identifies any blockage of the urinary tract. It is majorly performed in follow-up cases of a kidney transplant to evaluate the kidney function and its blood flow.
