Understanding Frontal Cephalogram
What is Frontal Cephalogram?
Frontal cephalogram is a specialized X-ray technique which is used to visualise the skull and surrounding soft tissues to analyse the growth pattern in the children. Besides this, the test helps to identify the relation of the jaws to the skull and the relation of the soft tissues to the teeth, and upper (maxilla) and lower jaw (mandible). It takes normally 20-30 minutes for the test.
What is Frontal Cephalogram used for?
- To diagnose mandibular right micrognathia (enlargement of the right side of the lower jaw)
- It is done prior to orthodontic treatment in children and to assess any growth abnormalities in jaw
