Ganglioside IgM Antibody, Serum
Understanding Ganglioside IgM Antibody, Serum
What is Ganglioside IgM Antibody, Serum?
Ganglioside IgM antibodies are autoantibodies that target gangliosides, which are complex molecules found in the cell membrane of neurons. Ganglioside IgM Antibody, Serum test detects IgM antibodies against 7 gangliosides, namely GM1, GM2, GM3, GD1a, GD1b, GT1b, and GQ1b. The antibodies can help diagnose multifocal neuropathy, Guillain-Barre syndrome, Miller-Fisher syndrome & sensory neuropathy. The test is done for patients who are likely to suffer from autoimmune central nervous system disorders. The Ganglioside IgM Antibody, Serum test is a medical test that is done for diagnosis and to monitor the progression of these neurological disorders and assess the effectiveness of treatment; evaluate the risk of developing an autoimmune neurological disorder in individuals who have a family history of the disease; to assist in the differential diagnosis of neurological disorders that have similar clinical presentations.
