What is Glucose Tolerance Test, 100g Glucose, Pregnancy (at TATA 1mg Labs Centre)?
Glucose Tolerance Test, 100g Glucose, Pregnancy (at TATA 1mg Labs Centre) is done during pregnancy to screen for gestational diabetes, which is a type of diabetes that develops during pregnancy. The test works by measuring the body's response to glucose after ingestion of 100 g of glucose (flavored or plain). This test comprises 4 blood sample collections. The first sample will be taken in a fasting state (minimum 8 hours fasting). After giving the fasting sample, you will be asked to drink 100 g glucose dissolved in 300 mL of water and consume over 5 minutes. Your next blood samples will be collected after 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours of drinking the glucose solution. Do not eat or drink anything, exercise, or chew gum during the entire duration till all 4 samples have been collected.
The Glucose Tolerance Test, 100g Glucose, Pregnancy (at TATA 1mg Labs Centre) test is generally advised during the second or third trimester; however, women having a family history of diabetes and/or obesity, a history of gestational diabetes during a previous pregnancy, and those following a sedentary lifestyle may be recommended early in their pregnancy. If your test result is normal but your doctor still has a high clinical suspicion of gestational diabetes, you must repeat the test in the third trimester. In many women, blood sugar returns to normal levels after they have delivered the baby.
