Hereditary Cancer Gene Panel

Hereditary cancer gene panel is a genetic test that checks the blood to assess the risk of developing cancer in the individual and family members by identifying genetic alterations (mutations) in multiple genes at once. This test can identify different types of mutations such as single nucleotide variants (SNV), small insertions or deletions (INDELs), and copy number variations (CNVs). It can predict the risk of developing hereditary cancers such as breast, ovarian, colorectal, prostate, pancreatic, thyroid, renal, skin, endocrine, gynecological, and nervous system cancer,  paragangliomas, and Li-Fraumeni syndrome. It is specifically useful for individuals with a family history of cancer with multiple affected members including younger members. Steps such as frequent cancer screenings and certain lifestyle changes may help lower the risk of cancer.
