Herpes Simplex Virus 1 And 2 DNA PCR - Qualitative test helps detect Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) infection and distinguishes HSV-1 infection from HSV-2 infection. Both HSV-1 and HSV-2 infections are transmitted through intimate person-to-person contact. HSV-1 infection spreads via oral contact, whereas HSV-2 infection is sexually transmitted. You may need this test when you have symptoms of herpes, such as blisters or sores on the sex organs or other parts of the body. Newborn babies of HSV-positive mothers may also need this test. Avoid sharing objects soiled with body secretions, such as the infected individual's saliva, or abstain from sexual activity with an infected individual to further prevent the spread of HSV infection.
