HIV Monitoring Panel

The HIV Monitoring Panel comprises a group of blood tests that helps assess the immune status and progression of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in individuals undergoing treatment or routine HIV monitoring. 

This panel includes an HIV-1 Viral load by TaqMan Plasma (Quantitative) PCR test that measures the amount of HIV-1 virus in the blood. The CD4 absolute count test evaluates the number of CD4 cells, a type of white blood cells that HIV targets and destroys; maintaining a healthy CD4 cell count is important for immune function. The CD8 test measures CD8 cells, another type of white blood cells that play a role in controlling HIV infection. Together, these tests provide insights into the patient’s immune status and guide ongoing treatment decisions. They also aid in monitoring disease progression (stage of HIV infection) and treatment response. 

Your doctor may recommend the HIV Monitoring Panel if you are diagnosed with HIV or are living with HIV, experiencing symptoms of opportunistic infections or HIV-related complications, or need to evaluate the effectiveness of your current antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimen.
