Understanding MRI Dacrocystography
What is MRI Dacrocystography?
A Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Dacrocystography creates a picture of the lacrimal sacs (which links the external eye to the nasal cavity) and their attached parts.
This test is prescribed by the doctor to detect lacrimal sac diseases like dacryocystitis (tear duct infection), and to diagnose lacrimal gland tumors. This test is also helpful in evaluating blocked tear ducts, especially in newborn babies.
What is MRI Dacrocystography used for?
- To detect lacrimal sac diseases like dacryocystitis (tear duct infection) which leads to naso lacrimal duct blockage
- To diagnose lacrimal gland tumor/cyst/abnormal mass growth
- To evaluate blocked tear duct specially in new born babies
- To determine lacrimal sac infection or abscess with surrounding cellulitis (deep skin infection)
